The Blue God and the Silver King: The Origins of Sport Fishing on Florida’s Southeast Coast

Curated by the Flagler Museum, the fall 2006 exhibit, The Blue God and The Silver King: The Origins of Sport Fishing on Florida’s Southeast Coast, will explore the origins of sport fishing in Florida during the Gilded Age.
Well before the unique combination of South Florida's ecological features, such as the Gulf Stream, spawned Florida’s massive sport fishing industry, many intrepid sport fishermen were willing to overcome the obstacles of traveling to this area to enjoy unparalleled salt-water sport fishing. This exhibit will provide visitors with a glimpse of Florida sport fishing in its infancy and explore the unique combination of ecological and social factors that eventually made Southeast Florida a sport fishing paradise
