The distinctive look of Palm Beach architecture is recognized around the world. Mizner Mediterranean: The Origins of Palm Beach Style explores the genius of renowned architect Addison Mizner, who created Palm Beach’s classic Mediterranean revival style and helped fashion the resort into an alluring destination.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Town of Palm Beach, Mizner Mediterranean explores the origins of the Town’s signature style through Mizner’s most significant projects on the Island. Numerous clubs, shops, and homes are featured, including the Everglades Club, Worth Avenue’s Via Mizner and Via Parigi, and lost masterpieces such as Playa Riente and El Mirasol. Mizner’s 1925 tiled courtyard for Whitehall and objects from Mizner Industries used during the construction and decoration of the Whitehall Hotel addition are also included.
The exhibition examines the many facets of Mizner’s genius, including works not only from the architectural office, but also his other companies such as Mizner Industries and Las Manos pottery. The exhibition will present architectural drawings, photographs, and plans, in addition to furniture, metalwork, ceramics, decorative tiles, and sculpture produced or imported by Mizner’s companies. The wide range of Mediterranean-style products on display brings to life the fashionable and exotic environments the architect created for his patrons in this tropical paradise.
